The parish newsletter given out during mass at St Ethelbert's Church in Slough today has a statement in it from NORES, the Northampton Diocesan Office for RE, Evangelisation, Catechesis and Schools. It is entitled Slough Catholic College and states: The Expression of Interest for the proposed Catholic College, having been submitted prior to the election, will soon be considered by Ministers. The delay has been due to the General Election and formation of the new Government. As soon as any further information is available, it will be communicated openly. Our prime concern continues to be the assured provision of Catholic secondary education for the young people of Slough.
At the 9am mass today, Father Paddy said that further information would appear in the local press within the next few weeks. The same statement, this time attributed to Monsignor Kevin McGinnell, Diocesan Episcopal Vicar for Education at Northampton Diocese, also appeared in the parish newsletter of Holy Family Church, Langley. Father Kevin O'Driscoll of Holy Family is, of course, one St Bernard's governors and Chair of governors at St Joseph's Catholic High School. On 25 June, St Joseph's included the statement from Kevin McGinnell in their newsletter. Doubtless it will be in St Bernard's newsletter on 28 June. The St Jospeh's newsletter also states: St Joseph's is one of the schools included in Slough LA's bid to join the BSF programme. We are currently awaiting news from Slough LA regarding this. On 28 June, the statement appeared in the St Bernard's Monday letter. Bishop Peter is visiting Holy Family Catholic Primary School on Wednesday 30 June. Perhaps his visit will coincide with an announcement from the DoE? It would appear that an announcement from the Department of Education is imminent. The next stage is the Feasibility Study. Let us hope that the DoE decides to kick it into the long grass. To discuss this article, join our mailing list. |
